The name Valerian is said to be derived from the Latin verb "valere", which means “to be strong” or “to be healthy.”  And this is one strong herb!

Used worldwide, the pungent smell of this common sleep aid is easily recognized, and is traditionally used as a relaxant, anxiety and sleep aid, and in some cultures is even used as a helper in times of extreme sadness.

Valerian Root is a perennial flowering plant with sweet scented pink or white flowers that is native to Europe and some parts of Asia.

The use of this herb dates back to the Greek and Roman Empires, and possibly even further!  Valerian root was even noted by Hippocrates to treat headaches, nervousness, trembling, and heart palpitations
